Hawkes wins in for France

Quite literally minutes after being dubbed the Spanish Chesney Hawkes, Sergio Ramos effectively put France into the quarter finals of the World Cup.

Chris Waddle, although not his usual apoplectic self, surpassed himself with a throw-away "Chesney Hawkes" whilst the beleagured Ramos dwelt on the ball. Still reeling from what he must surely regard as a libelous remark Ramos was left with no choice but to let Patrick Viera in at the back post. Zidane's late flourish in no way detracts from the relevancy of this post.
